What’s Surrogacy?

Gestational surrogacy is the procedure whereby a woman – the gestational surrogate – consents with an embryo copy process, otherwise known as an IVF Procedure. In this method, an embryo (or plural embryos) deriving from the couple acquiring the surrogacy service is implanted in the surrogate. If and when the procedure is successful, the surrogate becomes impregnated with the child of the couple (the intended parents). The level of involvement with the surrogate thereafter is completely up to the intended parents – typically, the couple is involved with the initial IVF treatments, and being present at the point of birth of their child. They then assume responsibility for the child post-delivery and make the permanent move to legal parenthood.

What’s IVF?

IVF is an option women choose opt for when they are having difficulties with infertility. The conventional IVF involves the removal of the human oocytes from the ovaries and the fertilization process, accomplished by “letting” motile spermatozoa to fertilize the oocytes into a special culture medium. Which means that once embryos are formed, they are transferred into the uterine cavity through an activity called Embryo Transfer. IVF is utilized to imitate the biological processes, in vivo.

IVF is used for women who’ve blocked or broken fallopian tubes, thus stopping the egg and sperm from meeting naturally. IVF also may help you as well as your spouse if your infertility is unexplained and/or the male spouse has a low sperm count. Other factors like mature age endometriosis, immunology, excess weight and mindset may lead a couple to infertility. IVF could be the option for you if these factors enter into play during this stressful time in your lives.

IVF Timeline

During a woman’s normal menstrual period, LH and FSH are the hormones that your body uses to encourage development and maturation of an individual oocyte. In order to optimize your pregnancy rates during IVF, it is important to have more thatn one tmature oocyte available for fertilization, embryo development and transfer into the uterus. The ovaries are therefore stimulated using higher amounts of the stimulating hormone that naturally exist within you. This is achieved using Gonadotrophin injections. Numerous stimulation regimes can be found at this time, and the physician chooses the one suitable to your biological system, to be able to achieve a good number of high quality oocytes. Close monitoring of the follicles (the sacs that contain the growing oocytes in the ovaries) is required and it is achieved with frequent ultra-sound to be able to find out their size and their numbers . At the correct timing, more hormones will be administered, aiding with the ultimate maturation of the oocytes. Predicated by all the available feedback and laboratory results, the best time for the recovery will be decided.

This is the procedure where the doctor collects the oocytes of the womain’s body, a procedure needing anesthesia. A little needle enters the upper part of the vagina, through the guidance of the ultrasound, into the ovary’s follicles. The substance that is aspirated will be taken to the laboratory, where the oocytes will be determined and transferred into culture media inside an incubator at 37oC to continue the maturation process for several more hours.

In this stage, your partner will have to give his test of sperm on the day of the oocyte recovery which will be maintained until needed). His sperm will be carefully made ready with a special method and the healthy spermatozoa separately. There are about 100,000 motile spermatozoa added per oocyte, with 4-6 hours after oocyte recovery. This is for the fertilization to take place within the next 12-18 hours in the incubator. The insemination process will lead to the fertilization of the oocytes, and ensuing embryos are transferred to different culture media to be viewed closely over the next 48 hours.

The best embryos are chosen and are transferred through the neck of the womb using a small catheter on the basis of their rate of growth and morphology. The amount of embryos that’ll be transferred is decided in line with the age and medical history of the potential mother; alongside the number and quality of the embryos that have been released during each remedy cycle. For every couple, there is a possibility of having several child. Embryo transfer is a painless method, much like having a cervical smear, and thankfully takes just a few minutes. Once the process has been completed, we highly recommend a brief resting period in the recovery room. One day after, oocyte retrieval progesterone and other supplements will be prescribed to ensure that the lining of the uterus receives sufficient stimulation and sustains the implantation of the embryos. Quantitative pregnancy tests with blood also needs to be svheduled 12-14 days after embryo transfer.
